Use the MagSafe 2 Power Adapter to charge your
MacBook Pro.
• Do not place the power adapter under a blanket, pillow,
or your body when the adapter is connected to a power
source.
1. Fully insert the AC plug or AC power cord into the power
adapter.
2. Do one of the following:
• Use common sense to avoid situations where your skin
is in prolonged contact with the power adapter when it’s
plugged into a power source. For example, don’t sleep with
a power adapter when it’s plugged into a power source.
• If you’re using the AC plug, plug the power adapter
directly into a power outlet.
• Take special care if you have a physical condition that
affects your ability to detect heat against the body.

Don’t use the power adapter in wet locations, such as
near a sink, bathtub, or shower stall, and don’t connect or
disconnect the power adapter with wet hands.
Unplug the power adapter if any of the following conditions
exists:
• The MagSafe 2 connector cable has become frayed or
damaged.
• If you’re using the AC power cord, plug it into a power
outlet and place the power adapter on a flat surface in a
well-ventilated location.
• The plug part of the adapter, the prongs, or the adapter
case has become damaged.

• The adapter is exposed to rain, liquid, or excessive
moisture.
• You suspect the adapter needs service or repair.
• You want to clean the adapter.
The MagSafe connector and MagSafe port on your
MacBook Pro contain magnets that can possibly erase data
on a credit card or other magnetic devices. To protect your
data, do not place magnetically sensitive items within
1 inch (25 mm) of this port.

If debris gets into the MagSafe 2 power port, remove it gently
with a dry cotton swab.

The power adapter may become very warm during normal use.
The power adapter complies with the user-accessible surface
temperature limits defined by the applicable international and
regional regulations and safety standards. However, even
within these limits, sustained contact with warm surfaces for
long periods of time may cause discomfort or injury. To reduce
the possibility of overheating or heat-related injuries:
• Use the power adapter only with the MacBook Pro for which
it was designed.
• Always allow adequate ventilation around the adapter and
use care when handling it.
