Rub the ferrule tip on the cleaning surface in one direction only.

When you reach the end of the cleaning surface, pick up the ferrule tip,
rotate and place it at the top and rub downwards at least 2 times.
Caution
Failing to pick up the ferrule tip when you reach the bottom of the
cleaning surface can result in static electricity that can damage the
fiber optic cable.

If desired, repeat steps 2 and 3.

If a fiber inspection scope is available, use the scope to inspect the
ferrule end face to make sure that it is clean.
6.
Reconnect the cable to the port or protect the ferrule tip with a dust
cap.
